Civil action names Hall deputy as defendant [09/30/2011]

An ongoing civil case against a Hall County deputy sheriff claims he uses too much force in making arrests.

The case naming Deputy Kevin Snyder may not be ready for trial until next spring in State Court Charles Wynne’s court. Braselton realtor Hanif Roshan alleges in his $5-million suit against the deputy, Sheriff Steve Cronic, and Hall County that Snyder assaulted him at his home in January 2009 while investigating a theft and that the attack was unprovoked and left him with permanent facial scaring.

Roshan also claims Snyder fabricated public drunk and obstruction charges against him following the assault and in a false imprisonment allegation states that Snyder placed Roshan in the Hall County Jail. Roshan claimed Snyder destroyed or lost audio tapes of his arrests. The complaint says the obstruction and drunk charge was dropped in August last year because Snyder destroyed the audio tape.

Roshan names Hall County and the Sheriff’s Department as defendants in the suit’s negligent hiring count which alleges numerous other incidents and complaints against Snyder.

“Although Defendants Hall County and the Hall County Sheriff’s Department were made aware that Deputy Snyder was a ‘loose cannon’, the Sheriff’s Department and the County saw fit to do nothing about Snyder by way of formal disciplinary action or by terminating his employment,” the suit states.
